Our Data Source
All facility information in this directory is sourced directly from the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Community Care Licensing Division — the state agency responsible for licensing and inspecting residential care homes.
Data shown may not reflect the most current licensing status. Always verify directly with the facility and California CDSS before making care decisions.
About CDSS
Every licensed Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) in California is registered with CDSS and assigned a unique license number. CDSS conducts regular inspections and investigates complaints filed against facilities.
What we show
- Facility name — as registered with CDSS
- Address and phone number — from the CDSS record
- License number — uniquely identifies the facility; verify on ccld.ca.gov
- Total inspection visits — how many times CDSS has inspected the facility
- Substantiated allegations — complaints that were investigated and confirmed during an inspection
What is a substantiated allegation?
A substantiated allegation is a formal complaint against a facility that CDSS investigated during an inspection and confirmed to have occurred. A zero does not necessarily mean no complaints were filed — it means none were confirmed. Conversely, a substantiated allegation does not automatically indicate an unsafe facility; the severity and nature of each case varies significantly. Always read the underlying inspection reports on the CDSS website.
Update frequency
Our data is refreshed periodically from CDSS. There may be a lag of days or weeks between a change in a facility's licensing status and when that change is reflected here. License status can change at any time. Always verify the current status directly with the facility and CDSS.
Verify independently
You can look up any facility by name or license number directly on the CDSS website. This is the most authoritative and up-to-date source available.
